Tanzanian Taarab singer Bi Kidude (real name Fatuma Binti Baraka) has passed away as a result of complications related to diabetes. Bi Kidude's real age was unknown, but the elderly star was believed to be older than 100.

Kenyan pop super group Camp Mulla has been nominated for a Kilimanjaro award in the East Africa’s Best Song category. The nominated song, Fresh All Day, is up against tracks by DNA, Wahu and Uganda's Jose Chameleone. This year's edition of the annual Kilimanjaro Music Awards will be held in Dar es Salaam on 8 June.
