About Us -
African Internet Radio was formed back in November 2003 by Rupert Palmer, Sarah Khalilu together with a small but dedicated group of broadcast professionals from Sierra Leone - initially to link the ever expanding and fragmented Sierra Leonean community - who had been split up, flung far and wide after a vicious 9 year civil war in their homeland.

Sierra Leone Radio (as the station was first born as) started up broadcasting just at weekends - to a select lucky few internet users.  Soon the message spread amongst this large community and the station's popularity soared.  Within a year of operation - the station was broadcasting 24/7 to thousands of discerning Africans all over the world.

A technological breakthrough in 2004 allowed the management to open their doors to budding presenters and broadcasters wherever they were in the world.  Now Africans in many diverse continents were able to actively participate in the production of a wide variety of entertaining programmes to a mass audience.

Presenters from over thirty countries regularly contribute to our station - and we encourage as many people as possible to actively participate in the production of a show.  No matter what your broadcast experience is, or indeed where you may be based in the world - if you wish to be part of this groundbreaking project - then get in touch today.

With the ever-growing popularity of the station - we noticed that listeners from all over Africa and beyond were tuning in and visiting our website on a regular basis.
With this in mind, in September 2006, we reformed the station - changing it's name to African Internet Radio - in order to embrace the whole continent, it's musical history as well as it's many different cultures and nationalities.
